Her Royal Highness's Yearly Festive Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers
Her Royal Highness has organised her annual festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.
The large audience will enjoy a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Focusing on Love and Generosity
The central message of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.
"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a message before the concert.
A Steady Comeback
The princess has been making her own steady comeback to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Musical Talent and Access
Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians backed by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of musical tuition.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at the evening's event.
"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.
A Family Affair
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for community pantries.
Festive Decor and Performances
The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.
Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
