A person who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a summer program in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two children who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The elderly man, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.
Yet, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a young boy.
Ruben was held in detention ahead of a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.
The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She said Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had worries in recently.
The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepchild had concerns about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel stated items including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepson alerted the police about his worries.
She explained Ruben went on to play the "candy game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that time," she continued.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.
Mrs Prior said the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson contacted the authorities once more.
She stated Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
